Started my first cork decoy

Post by ShadowWalker »

Finally got a big boy saw that has a cutting height of 14". Bought me a sheet of cork 3ft x 2ft x 4 inches thick. Not cheap but I like it and they should last my lifetime. Carving cork is awesome.

It's moving along, I have 2 coats of spar vanish on it to seal it, the head got finish sanding and sealed. I just need to paint the eyes and get them put in, then it will be ready to have the head attached and keel put on. Then paint.

I got the eyes set in and the head attached. Head is held into the body with a 1/2" dowel. Next step is to blend the head to the body and cut out a keel.

Are you using them for your hunting decoys? Or are you making them to sale?

All of them I made so far have gone in my rig except the redheads I donated to a Pheasants Forever banquet last year, now that I got my ruddy back.
