Beef lungs float and work pretty well from what I hear down here. Can't speak as far as experience, but next time I'll set a bait or two and see how it works. I

Found a good size one this afternoon, but could not get close enough. We are not allowed to have bait in possession. That's one of things that makes tough for getting close to size or catch gators here. Been thinking about breaking out the MoJo Duck and putting him next to the bank on the river to see if it will draw him in close.

I have become a Captain Ahab. Despite low water levels, a hurricane, and incopetent help. I have been hunting the the same alligator for the last week. I have got on to him three times now. I have set at least three hooks in this hero and still have not been able to land him. Fought with him for five hours tonight, and somehow he was able to escape again. He's good! It is now personal. I could use some support. I am running out of ideas.

Sounds like this is not the gator's first rodeo. Perhaps he was thinking, "Fought with him for five hours tonight and still no supper". :P

I have a friend/coworker that just landed a monster down at Seminole. 12'9"" and 590lbs to be exact. He said it was a 4 hour fight. He had help though, said that he first hooked it with a fishing pole with 100 lb line and it broke that before he could get the second pole on it. Found it a agin a few minutes later, hooked it again and quickly got a second hook( 65 lb line) on it. It would dive and come up for air over and over until it was finally exhausted enough that they could get a bigger rope and hook on it. Got it to the boat and used a 45 cal bang stick. He said after they got it wrestled into the boat and as they were now exhausted too, the gator "woke up"!! Seems as if the shot from the bang stick just knocked him out!!! He had to shoot it with a pistol inside the boat.
Maybe you could try two rods?

That would be crazy. I didn't get drawn this year but I hope I do next year. That story makes me want to go.

Keep it up you'll get him bubba !
Sounds like you might need a partner that can help set a second hook
Or I have a bow fishing rig that has options for gator rigs basically lets you stick em with buoys so should you break a line you can keep on em ! Plus the line is 2-300#'s that might help a bit

Need to borrow my shark gear? Unfortunately the 6/0 isn't going to cast well, but the 6 ft boat road gives you some backbone without giving the fish much leverage.

If you get him close, hit him with a hook tied with poly rope tied to a large bleach jug. Zip tie the ends in a loop because knots don't always hold with that stuff...but it is hard to beat when it drags through debris.
